goofy boys
Cody took Cade for a ride on Cade's little truck. Cade loves it!
Today, Cody grabbed some tape and "fixed" our fireplace for us. I have a feeling I will have a few more of these over the years.

Cody was headed out on a hike and this was his get-up. Spiderman costume, winter coat, duffle bag full of treats, drinks and books and then his sleeping bag.

and then there is Cool Cader chillin in his crib. Every night he pulls the side of the bumper down and lays on it.

On Friday, I finally had a chance to go see my friend Julia and her new little baby. Cody was instantly in love. Now, he wants a baby sister.
My parents stopped by on their way to Mesquite for the week and we went to dinner at Bucca Di Beppo. It is definitely one of Cody's favorite restaurants, but I think its just because he likes the name. The waitress brought him a little ice cream at the end and the only spoon on the table was the huge serving spoon.
Cade's little personality is developing so fast. He is such a little goof ball.
On Sunday I tried to get a cute picture of the boys in their matching suits but this was the best I got.

random cute picture
Cade has starting being able to sit up in his crib, he used to just push himself up on his arms but now he sits up. I walked by today and he had grabbed a teddy bear that is in his room and was kissing it, it was so precious.
3 muskateers
Cody goes to the same preschool as his friend Branson and Branson's cousin Jackson. They are so cute. They all showed up at the same time yesterday and I thought it was cute that they waited for each other to go in.
Old Snow... New Fun
It snowed about 1/4 inch the other day but it was enough for Cody to want to go sledding again and he wanted me to watch him the whole time.
Kangaroo Zoo
We like Kangaroo Zoo. Especially when it is cold outside, so when Marissa told me they were going on Monday with Scarlett we jumped at the chance to go. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures of Cody and Scarlett playing together but I did get some cute ones of Cade exploring the area. 
Giggles
Cade thinks Cody is hilarious. I am surprised I was able to get this uploaded. These never work for me. All Cody was doing was spitting out a rubber band.
2 goofballs in a backseat
I take Cody and Branson to preschool every day. They are a couple of goofballs. I am pretty sure they were singing to a song off the madagascar soundtrack here.

My first sewing projects
Technically, these are not my first sewing projects. I was homeschooled in 6th grade and my Aunt Deb helped me make aprons for my family. 7 aprons! It took all year and none of them fit us anymore. Anyway, those basic skills that she taught me so many years ago have been very helpful in getting back into things. Chris gave me a sewing machine for Christmas. Actually, if I am being honest, I have been begging for about 9 months now, so I think he may have been tired of hearing me whine :) I was shocked that he picked one out all by himself and even kept it a surprise. My first order of business was.... burp cloths. They seemed the easiest, so I went to it. Stacy had picked out some fabric she liked right after Christmas. They are all made with a cloth diaper base. 
I also took a pair of pants I had purchased about 3 years ago that shrunk when I washed them the first time and now they are too short and I turned them into skinny jeans.... really really really skinny jeans :) I will take a picture next time I wear them.
Chris also gave me a cake decorating set for Christmas. I have been experimenting lately and now I get to take the Wilton cake decorating classes starting in April. I CAN'T WAIT!!
My neighbor was making a cake for her nephew yesterday and she let me help. I have already been thinking about the boys birthday cakes :) Elmo's fur isn't quite finished but you get the idea.
And finally...!!!! I was at walmart the other day just drooling over all the sewing stuff and I decided to buy a pattern that looked pretty simple. I made a "book bag" I was hoping it would be bigger than this but I still liked the way it turned out. Because I have never been good at sticking with a plan and following directions I improvised a lot. I did the straps, body and pockets according to the pattern and then made my own lining and made up the top. The pattern called for a zipper but I didn't want a zipper on this one. What do you think?? :)

Cody has learned to write his name over the last 9 months, but over the last 3 weeks or so I have started to find it everywhere! I can't leave anything out if I don't want it to have Cody's name all over it. Like, Chris had some medical information papers he needed to take to a Dr appt and when I went to get them, Cody had written his name really big over both sheets. My recipe card, which I still wrote the recipe on, and this Birthday card from Wingers the other night.

Cade 10 1/2 months
Cade's nurse came by the house the other day for his monthly appointment. Fortunately this time he was crawling. He weighed 19 lbs 14 oz. He is still 25th percentile for weight and 80th for height. My long skinny boys. :)
He is all over the house now. He has discovered the magnets on the fridge and loves playing with those, he still goes straight for the space heater every time he is on the ground and he loves playing with doors. When Cody is playing Cade will work really hard to get over to where Cody so he can play with him but Cody is too busy to notice and he'll run over somewhere else and Cade just puts his head down on the floor and starts crying. He just wants to be where the fun is! He finds EVERY small item and puts it in his mouth, even hairs. GROSS! He loves cars, especially Cody's remote control Hummer... as long as it isn't on. He's eating better, I have started giving him more table food again. He eats lots and lots of string cheese. He had french toast for the first time this morning, and LOVED it! But most of all he loves his brother. He never laughs for me, unless I pretend to drop him and even then its more of a little giggle, but Cody really gets him going, and by something as simple as jumping off the couch. I can't wait to see how these to interact as Cade gets bigger and is able to steal Cody's toys. We'll see how patient Cody can be then.

Turkey Chili
I also made a yummy chili today. I had some ground turkey I had bought for this purpose but kept putting it off. I found a recipe that looked good and then added and subtracted a few things. Here is what I ended up with:
Turkey Chili
1 1/2 lb ground turkey
1 onion chopped finely
1 tsp minced garlic
cook those 3 ingredients in a saute pan until the meat is cooked all the way through. I would say "brown ingredients" but turkey doesn't brown. It whites.
In a slow cooker, or a large pot combine:
cooked turkey, onions and garlic
2 cans kidney beans
1 can white beans
1 can pinto beans
3 (14.5 oz) cans diced tomatoes
1 cup water
1/2 tsp chili powder (or less)
2 tsp cumin
2 tsp salt (or less)
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp crushed red pepper or cayenne pepper (or less)
Bring to a boil and simmer for 2 hours.
I made this so that mainly for meals for Cade so I put less of most of the spicy seasonings. It was perfect for us. Even Chris ate it. Yep, seriously!

What is the difference between Beef Stew and Beef Soup?
I never know what to search for on recipe websites. On Sunday, the boys and I went to Chris's Aunt and Uncles house to hang out since Chris had left for a couple days for a convention in Vegas. Jill had made a YUMMY beef soup and it made me want to make some. So... I did. On Tuesday. I used a beef roast for the meat hoping it would make it easier for Cade to eat it. It didn't. Beside that though, it was a great soup...or stew. I looked up a few recipes on one of my favorite recipe sites Tasty Kitchen (it was started by The Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond and I have followed her cooking blog for a couple years.) I found a couple recipes that looked yummy but not quite what I was looking for, so I made my own.
Beef Stoup. There we go.
I cooked the roast beef the night before in my slow cooker just until it was cooked enough that I could seperate the fat with my fingers. Not like falling apart when you touch it.
1 small roast cooked and pulled apart.
4 medium potatoes cubed
4 carrots cut however you want
1 onion chopped
3/4 to 1 cup peas
1 can corn
3 TBS beef bouillon granules
6 cups hot water
1/4 cup brown gravy mix
salt and pepper
3 bay leaves
and here is my secret weapon...
1/3 cup red wine

My husband said, it was delicious, Cody liked it and Cade spit out every single pea and pulled every single piece of meat out of his mouth. Random pictures from my phone
I had a few random pictures on my phone and thought I would just do a post with all of them together.
Poor Cade had a sinus infection. He had a cold from Thanksgiving to Christmas so I expected an ear infection. He never had a fever and after his cold cleared up I thought we were going to avoid it. Then a week later his eyes started producing green boogers. They were bad the first day and then seemed better the morning of day 2 but took a really bad turn for the worse during the day. At 4:3o I called his Dr and had him at their office at 4:40. His ears were perfect so she said he had a sinus infection and put him on antibiotics. He was much better today.
For Christmas, Chris got me a huge Wilton cake decorating kit and had been asking me to whip something up for a few days so he got this... It was my best frosting job. I was able to make the cake look more even with extra frosting. I am going to take the decorating classes offered at Joanns next month. I am super excited! Oh, and I made the flowers out of gum paste. It was my first experience using gum paste and it was hard!

Cody didn't get to get in the bathtub with Cade for the first time.... ever. He had already had 2 baths that day. So, he asked if he could watch him take a bath. It was so precious. He sat like that the whole time.
And these 2 goofballs occupy the back seat of my car every Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday on the way to preschool. They crack me up. I don't even remember what they were doing here but they thought they were pretty funny.
This last picture breaks my heart every time I look at it. This is what happened after Steve and Lori left Utah and again when my Mom and Dad left. All I do is say, where is grandma lori? or where is papa doug? It sends him into a tail spin. His chin quivers and he struggles to tell me that they had to go home and go to work through his tears. He loves his grandparents!

At 10 1/2 months, my little Caders has learned to crawl!!! He is still pretty slow and actually prefers to just roll around to get where he needs to go but this is a start :)

New Years Eve and Day
New Years Eve isn't celebrated very big in our home yet. All 3 of my boys go to bed early and I am not willing to keep the little boys up that late. We went to a late lunch/early dinner at a Chinese restaurant in Sandy and then came home to play games and hang out.
It was also my niece Scarlett's birthday, but we didn't get to see her that day. Cody is busting at the seams to be able to give her her birthday gift. Sunday night can't come soon enough.
New Years Day was has been very relaxing. We got up, had a nice breakfast, compliments of Chris and then we headed out of the sled. My dad brought up his new 3 wheeler so we tied the sled behind the 4wheeler. Unfortunately it broke not very long into our adventure so we had to take a break and go to the store to get a new one. 5 stores later we found our sleds and headed back. We found a little hill up in our subdivision to play on.
Cody had been asking to go to Pirate Island for a while, so we decided to go tonight. When he talked about Pirate Island though, he talked about the people that jump off the cliffs... that happens at The Mayan. A completely different restaurant. We ended up at the Mayan and we had a great time. The shows were awesome. We got to watch it 4 times in the 2 hours we were there.
Cody is so tired!! He has been playing so hard. This picture was taken maybe 3 minutes into our drive home. He was out cold!!!
I am looking forward to what 2011 holds for us. I can't believe 2010 is over already though. 2010 was so great. The addition of Cade to our family, Cody in preschool and watching Chris do something he enjoys.
