too far along

I didn't make it this far along in my pregnancy with Cody, so this is all new territory for me at this point. I am definitely bigger than I have even been before.

38 weeks

At this point in my pregnancy with Cody... I was getting ready to start pushing.
Today, Cody and I are playing the waiting game.
I do a lot of sitting so that my feet don't explode and Cody has been
perfect. He will play with his legos forever, or quietly watch a movie.
He has even been good about helping me keep the house clean. It takes us a long time
but he will put all his toys away by himself.
He also has a couple of puzzles that he got for Christmas that he will play with for like 30 minutes by himself. Or work on his letters.

He is super focused.
It helps that I am not having to constantly be on the ground playing with him right now.

I owe him big time for being such a good boy.

Went to the Dr yesterday. Made some progress... not much.
Any day now.

Valentines Day 2010

What is LOVE?

For me, it was a husband willing to sacrifice all his pillows so my swollen feet could be elevated.

or a husband who brings you one whole pound of hand picked chocolates from See's Candies even though I am already busting out of every article of clothing I own, just because he thought I needed a "pick me up"

That's what it's all about right?

:)

We had a fabulous Valentines Day. I could not have asked for anything more.

Chris brought home some beautiful roses and the chocolates on Friday so I could start enjoying them. He knows I don't like nuts in my chocolates so he specially picked every one. And he hasn't made one comment about the fact that I still take a bite out of every one and put it back for later.

This morning, he let me stay in bed til 11.

Then, Cody and I made heart shaped pancakes for breakfast/lunch.
(I thought about making them red, but I knew Chris wouldn't eat them if I did that)

After church, I sent Cody and Chris to our room to hang out while I made dinner. I wanted to do something special for both of them since they are both my Valentines, so I picked up some King Crab Legs at the store yesterday. I am not sure who likes the crab more Chris or Cody but we had a blast. I made the Red Lobster cheesy biscuits, steak and baked potatoes.

Definitely the best Valentines Day I have ever had.

After dinner we watched the Olympics for about an hour before Cody fell asleep.
He loves watching the skiers, and figure skaters when they do jumps.
He told Chris while they were watching the Alpine Skiers that he can do that too.
I think we are going to try to take him ice skating soon, just to see what he thinks.

Now that Valentines Day has come and gone, I am ready for this baby. Okay, I was ready last Sunday too... but today, I am seriously ready. I am thinking the end is near, simply because I do not think my ankles can get any more swollen in a day.

Cody

I am having a moment. Okay, I'll be honest I have had about a 3 week moment. Even Chris said something last night about this being what parenting is all about.

My baby is such an amazing little boy. He is so helpful and polite and hilarious! He has never been a tantrum thrower, or known to have melt downs... ever. He just doesn't do it. I think my Heavenly Father knew I needed him first.

I got a chance to talk to his preschool teacher the other day before school and she said that he was "such a polite little boy." She said he is always saying Please, Thank you and I'm Sorry. It didn't surprise me at all! He apologizes for some of the most random things. Over Thanksgiving Break we were at my in-laws and he bonked his head on Lori's table and he turned around and said, "I'm SO SORRY I bonked my head on your table Grandma Lori." We are all used to it so we just say, its okay you don't need to say sorry for bonking your head, but I didn't think about what someone else might think when he apologized for something like that. So, Miss Melva told me that she realized he was apologizing for things like accidentally knocking the blocks over or bumping into something and she thought she was being too hard on him. So she was watching very carefully to make sure she wasn't getting after him too much. I reassured her that it wasn't her... its just his personality. But I LOVED hearing that he always says Please and Thank You. Something so small, but so important and I would much rather him be too apologetic than a bully at this point.

A few weeks ago Cody was laying down to take a nap and I laid down with him for a little bit, I jerked and said, "Ouch!" He turned around and said, "Whats wrong? Did Cade kick you?" I said yes. Before I could protect myself Cody smacked my tummy!!! I asked him why he would do that and he said, "I gave Cade a spankin!" He is so protective of me and I LOVE it. Even though it hurt me more than it could ever hurt Cade, he was protecting me.

And just this morning, as I lay in bed with a miserable cold I ran out of tissues. I told Cody that they were all gone and he jumped up and ran out of the room. He came back in a couple minutes later with wet wipes from Cade's room. It made my day. He will rub my back or kiss my head or ask repeatedly if I am feeling better or if he can get me some medicine. I love him.

I am so glad I have a blog because in 12 years when he hates me, I want to be able to prove to him that one day he did love me. :) He is my favorite.

On a lighter note...

Cody and I headed to Kangaroo Zoo for a couple hours today. Terrible picture taken on my phone but he always has a great time there. This time he was chasing around a little girl most of the time. It was so sad when he Dad told her that she had to go, both Cody and the little girl were crying.

Your pregnancy this week (37 weeks)

I got my "Your pregnancy this week" email this morning and I felt a lot better about my post yesterday. I woke up thinking I should delete it because its so debbie downer and I know there are so many women who would trade me places in a heartbeat but its how I honestly feel right now so I considered moving to my other blog that is more of my journal that no one but me sees. Then, I read this in my "your pregnancy" email and now I at least don't feel so bad for feeling the way I do.

I'm sick of being pregnant! Is something wrong with me?

Nope, it's perfectly normal to feel that way. Many women get tired of being pregnant during the third trimester, and some even earlier. What's exciting and new during the first few weeks and months of pregnancy can become pretty tedious by the sixth or seventh month. Let's face it, there's nothing particularly thrilling about having to roll out of bed sideways, groan every time you stand up, and pee 20 times a day. Sure, you always get offered a seat on the train, but you also face little delights like hemorrhoids and heartburn. It's enough to wipe the rosy glow from even the most excited mom-to-be.

However, if your pregnancy ennui starts to feel more like persistent blues or anxiety that's affecting your ability to function, talk to your prenatal care practitioner. Although mood swingsdepression. Postpartum depression gets more attention in the press, but at least 10 percent of women have bouts of depression during pregnancy. Untreated depression isn't good for you or the health of your baby, so it's important to get treatment. Fortunately, most cases of pregnancy-related depression can be treated by a supportive therapist and with antidepressant medication if necessary.

I don't think I have depression, but I am certainly not feeling as happy as I thought I would be.

37 weeks.

Oh BOY!

I need to throw out my disclaimer first: I love being pregnant. I love that I am able to bring life into this world, and what a magnificent process it really is. I am so grateful for my little family and this new addition we are about to meet even though I am having the hardest time picturing us with another little person in our family. Its been the 3 of us for 4 years now.

That being said... Can I be done yet??? This pregnancy has been SO incredibly different from my pregnancy with Cody. I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of that pregnancy. It was perfect. I even remember thinking at one point, "Why would anyone EVER complain about being pregnant."

Now, I know. I have been in pain since like week 15. The pelvic pressure started earlier and hurt WAY more, the morning sickness... that was a whole new thing this time. I have had bouts of nausea throughout the whole pregnancy, MANY sleepless nights, swollen feet, hands and face.
And most recently, I have had issues with feeling shaky, weak and short of breath.

I remember waking up at exactly 37 weeks 6 days and thinking, "I can't do this anymore." My water broke that morning. I think I began thinking those same thought around week 9 this time, simply because of the morning sickness, but more seriously at week 34. The time has been going extremely slow.

I had a Dr. appt today. No progress from last week, but that didn't surprise me at all! I did the same thing with Cody. The crazy part is, if my water breaks at 38 weeks like I did with Cody... I only have a week left. That makes me happy. I just hope I make it that long. Our house got hit with an awful head cold this weekend, and I feel even worse (which I just didn't think was possible.) Hopefully that goes away fast.

So, like I said at the beginning of this post, I am so grateful to be able to be pregnant, but I think I just feel sorry for myself right now :)

Cody has been such a sweetie. After Chris left for work this morning, Cody rolled over and started rubbing my back and snuggling up to me.
I went to my appt while he was at preschool today and when we got home, I just didn't feel well at all so I put on some cartoons and asked Cody to be quiet while I took a little nap. As I was laying there, his favorite cartoon came on and he yelled something really loud. He turned around and said, "Oh, Sorry Mom I will be quiet"
I love my little buddy.

Me and my boy

I am going to miss the days of just Mommy and Cody.

He is my best friend.

VEGAS- January 2010

What a weekend!!

It started on Wednesday night when Chris came home and I asked him how work was.
His response: "Lets go to Vegas this weekend."

I laughed.

He said, "I'm serious, its our last chance to get away and relax before the baby comes."

I sat quietly.

Then, I quickly began planning a weekend to VEGAS! Now, being that we don't drink, and aren't big gamblers, and we took a 3 year old with us... Vegas doesn't really mean VEGAS. Its more of just a few days off. No where we HAVE to be, and nothing we HAVE to do. Just hang out.

First however, I laid in bed Wednesday night contemplating if we should actually go. I will be 36 weeks tomorrow and I kept thinking, if I go, I will have the baby in Vegas... if I don't go, we will just have a boring weekend at home, with no baby issues. After a sleepless night, I woke up Thursday and sent Chris a text.

"I'm booking the hotel"

We were going!
We left Friday around 4. The drive down was nice, Chris was even nice enough to let me drive part of the way. I get carsick SUPER easy when I am pregnant. The only way to avoid it is if I am sleeping or driving.

The worst part about the drive???

Cody, ever 5 minutes: "Dad, Are we there yet?"
seriously! he never asks that and then all the sudden he wants to know every 5 minutes if we are there. Fortunately he fell asleep for a couple hours of the drive.

We stopped in St George for a quick dinner at Mongolian BBQ and then got to Vegas at about 9:00. We stayed at Treasure Island again and really wanted to get there in time for Cody to watch the last Pirates show at 10. After waiting in the check out line for 30 minutes we were headed up to our room. We broke out the Mongolian leftovers and enjoyed the show.

Saturday morning, I got a late start. I didn't take any of my Tylenol PM thinking I was tired enough to be able to sleep on my own. Boy was I wrong! We headed for breakfast at IHOP at like 11:30 :) Then it was off to the Southern Nevada Zoo. It was actually pretty cool. Not very big and not a lot of different animals but they did have cool animals. Some I had never seen before.
Peacock

an ape of some sort

Flamingo. Cody said this was his favorite animal.

Inside the little kids petting zoo area. He was kind of shy. The best part was when he was trying to cross the little green bridge behind us and a goat had plopped himself down right in the way and Cody said, "Excuse me" to try to get around him.

My favorite part of the zoo trip was watching Chris try to mess with the Mountain Lion.

Riding the elephant

These were baby Fossa's from Madagascar

another favorite: golden pheasant

one more mountain lion picture

We couldn't really see the alligator, but this gives you an idea of how big he was.
not my favorite picture, but the only one of Cody and I.

gross!

We went in the gift shop and had some fun with their masks.

This one is a shark head.
After the zoo, we had to stop at the Las Vegas Luxury Outlet Mall. We walked around the entire place and the only person to score any thing was Cody.... of course!! Chris found him a really cool pair of "Bronco" running shoes. He honestly thinks he runs faster when he's wearing them.
After the Outlet Mall, we headed back to the hotel so I could lay down for a little bit and for Cody to take a nap so that he would be able to stay up and watch the Pirates show again that night.
We went to dinner at a restaurant at Palace Station Hotel and Casino. I bought a $25 gift certificate off restaurant.com for $2 so we thought we'd give it a try. The food wasn't GREAT but we had so much fun. Usually when we use a restaurant.com gift certificate I don't show them the g/c til after dinner because I think sometimes servers don't give as great of service if they know you will be paying less for your dinner. This time however, I gave it to our server up front because I wanted to make sure it would work and there wasn't some sort of special restriction or something. I don't know if it was the fact that they know we get asked to fill out a survey after our dinner when we use restaurant.com or what but ever server, hostess, busser, manager and assistant manager came and asked us how our meal was twice, and said bye to us as we left.

Cody became camera shy as soon as I said I wanted a picture though.

Funny story: Cody's chocolate milk was made by combining a glass of milk and a heaping scoop of hot fudge. Chris and I got a good laugh out of it. I had to scoop out all the extra hot fudge just so he could drink it without getting straight hot fudge in his straw.

My favorite part... dessert. Our server was really nice. She had been in the U.S. for 26 years and has worked at this restaurant for 16 years!!! She stood and talked to us literally the whole time we were eating. She kept asking if we wanted a soda, or if Chris wanted the salad bar, or if I wanted a baked potato since I gave Cody my side of Mac and Cheese. The funny part was that everytime she asked she would say, I will bring it to you. Like, for free. We kept turning her offers down until I saw a table next to us order one of these:

oh my goodness!!! I love apple crisp desserts. So, I may have hinted to wanting one :) She brought it. I had to take a picture because my favorite part was the bubbling carmel. It almost burned on the hot skillet and it made it chewy and crunchy. Oh MY!!! I ate the whole thing. I think Chris had 3 bites and Cody had ZERO.

He was too busy playing with Chris's phone.

We spent about 2 hours at dinner simply because people kept coming and talking to us. :) So after we had to hurry back to the hotel to catch the 8:30 Pirates Show. We wanted Cody to be able to watch one from down on the street. He wasn't extremely fond of the loud canons that get fired off but overall he loved it.

Sunday, we took our time getting ready and headed out around 10:30. Since we lost an hour coming home we didn't get home until almost 6. That included a stop for lunch, 2 bathroom stops for Cody and one for Mommy. We were kind of nervous that the roads would be bad coming home but it was clear the entire way! We seriously considered coming home Monday(today) but Cody has preschool at noon and I have a Dr appt at 1:30 and I didn't want to have to reschedule my appt. I don't think they would be thrilled that I was traveling.

I am so glad Chris decided we needed to go. It was a great last little vacation with just the 3 of us! We all definitely had a great time.
